Now, in Canada the roads are not paved in gold (as my Chinese friends were told before they emigrated here). In fact it may only be paved in gold by the new immigrants that have so much drive.
The people born here, even the so-called ‘poor’ among us are doing fine. We don’t realize it, of course, even when we’re told. I could have been rich many times over by now if not for my middle-class upbringing.
It’s not that my parents did something wrong, it’s just that as soon as we’re doing well, collectively, we become high-minded. Sad, but true. I have so much stuff, and even collect more and buy more. Sure, I help others…and maybe that’s what it’s all about.
An apple tree grows in South Western Ontario. Many fruit trees grow, and vines…it’s a land of milk and honey to be sure. I’m grateful, and I just want to say: Wow. This particular little piece of land is tended by God: the sun shines, the rain falls, the wheat (& everything else) grows.
